Compulsory Retirement/Increase in Limits of
Employment Tribunal Awards

On 1st October 2006 the Employment Equality (Age) Regulations 2006
(“the Regulations”) came into force, their purpose being to outlaw
discrimination on the grounds of a person’s age.

FACEBOOK – SOCIAL “NOT” WORKING?

In recent years individuals have been able to create their own personal
profiles and communicate with other users through “social networking”
internet sites, the most popular being Facebook, Bebo and MySpace.

CHANGES TO STATUTORY ANNUAL LEAVE ENTITLEMENT

Presently, the Working Time Regulations 1998 (“the current legislation”) provide workers with basic entitlement to four weeks paid statutory leave each year so that a worker working a five day week under the current legislation is only entitled to 20 days leave, 8 of which may have to be taken on public/bank holidays at the instruction of the employer.

EMPLOYMENT LAW UPDATE

The ACAS Code on Disciplinary and Grievance Procedures indicates that final warnings given to employees at the conclusion of a disciplinary process should normally have a time limit, which the Code
suggests should be 12 months.
